Warts & Verruca

Warts are clumps of skin cells that are growing abnormally due to a virus infection. A Verruca is another name for a type of wart (plantar warts) that is usually found on the soles of the feet. Warts occur more commonly on areas of skin that are likely to be damaged, such as fingers, elbows, knees and the face.

Treatments:

Laser treatment of warts/verrucas is an effective alternative to traditional treatments and is particularly suitable for large or widespread warts and verrucas that have failed to respond to traditional treatments. In most cases warts and veruccae that are treated with lasers are permanently removed after one procedure.

>> Nd:Yag Laser for non ablative treatments:

Nd:Yag laser light will destroy the blood supply to the wart or verruca without causing damage to the surrounding tissue. The laser energy heats up the wart, sealing its blood supply and kill the viral infection so the wart can no longer survive. If all of the blood supply is not killed, further treatment will be needed to ensure that the growth is killed. Course of 1-3 treatments may be recommended in weekly interval.

Alternatively an erbium laser can be used to gently remove the wart layer by layer.

>> Er:Yag Laser for surgical verruca removal procedures:

The Er:YAG laser is a safe, very precise and most effective treatment for all types and sizes warts including large plantar verrucas, which would normally be surgically removed. Laser excision causes less bleeding, quick healing and results in less scarring. Postoperative healing occurred after 7 to 14 days. This will depend on the size, location and number of lesions that need removing.

Statistically warts appear in a variety of locations and have been successfully eliminated in 75% of patients after a single treatment. Approximately 14% of patients are non-responders to any available treatments.
